Privacy: live review extension
limena live review checks the page you are looking at for accessibility problems. Without a limena account it sends nothing anywhere. This page says exactly what changes when you connect one.
1. What this covers
This page covers the Chrome extension limena — live review, and only that. What limena does with data once it reaches limena is in the main privacy policy. The separate session capture extension has its own page.
2. Without a limena account: nothing leaves your browser
The extension works without signing in. In that free mode it runs a live accessibility scan of the page in front of you, offers a manual checklist for what a scan can't judge, and tools to look closer: tab order, page structure, colour contrast, vision and motion simulations, a screen reader preview, and a recorded flow through several pages.
All of that runs inside your browser. What the extension reads from the page (its elements, their names and colours, the scan's results) stays in the side panel. It is not sent to limena or to anyone else. A report you download is built in the panel and saved by your browser to wherever you choose.
3. With a limena account: what is sent, and when
Connecting is your choice, and it is what lets the panel work with your team's limena program. Then:
- The address of the page, when the panel opens on it, so limena can look up that page's findings and manual checklist.
- The address again if you ask limena to scan a page it has not scanned yet.
- Your decisions, verdicts, notes and fixes, when you record them.
- One element's facts when you press Ask limena in a guided manual test: its tag, role, accessible name, alt text and up to 300 characters of the text around it. limena passes them to your workspace's own AI provider. Never the page's HTML, its cookies or any other element.
- Cropped screenshots of up to three elements, taken from the tab only when you press Send on a fix. They go to your issue tracker with the ticket, through limena.
- A fix sent as a pull request to your program's repository, only when you press that button: the fix, the pages and elements it covers, and the code change limena drafted. No screenshot, name or note.
- A public share link, only when you make one: a frozen copy of the page's findings, fixes and verdicts, without names, notes, tickets or money, readable by anyone with the link for 30 days or until you turn it off.
4. What it stores, and where
- Your connection to limena, in the browser's session storage. It is cleared when the browser closes, and Disconnect clears it at once. In free mode there is none.
- Your settings (WCAG version and level, extra standards) and whether you have dismissed the first-run card, in the browser's local storage on this device.
- Manual checklist verdicts you record in the free mode (pass, fail or not applicable, and any note), in the browser's local storage on this device, keyed by the page's address. They are not sent anywhere.
The extension keeps no record of the pages you visit, and has no analytics.
5. Each permission, and why
- Side panel, active tab and scripting. Pressing the toolbar button opens the panel and lets it read the address of the tab you are on. To outline and check a page, the panel runs its own checks in that tab.
- Access to a site is asked one site at a time, the first time you check a page on it, and only so the panel can outline and check that page. Nothing runs on a site you have not allowed.
- Access to limena's own console lets limena hand the extension your connection when you choose to connect it.
- Storage holds the connection and settings described in section 4.
- Nothing else. The inspector and the screen reader preview work out what assistive technology gets from the page itself, and the reflow simulation zooms the tab to 400% and puts your zoom back afterwards. None of these needs a further permission.
The panel also loads its typeface from Google Fonts. That request carries nothing from the page you are checking.
6. What we never do
- Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers or used for advertising.
- No data is used to decide creditworthiness or for lending.
- No code is downloaded and run: everything the extension runs ships in the extension itself.
7. Removing it
Uninstalling the extension removes its settings and any connection with it. Anything you recorded in limena while connected stays in your program there, under the main privacy policy, and can be removed from the console or by writing to us.
